Dutch Newspapers
Dutch newspapers are, in comparison to many other countries, very partisan. Most newspapers make no effort to disguise their political leanings. The largest news vendor is called AKO, and has outlets all over the Netherlands.
Amongst the most popular newspapers are:
- Algemeen Dagblad – National, daily
- Agrarisch Dagblad – National daily
- NRC Handelsblad – National, daily
- Metro – Regional variations, daily
- De Telegraaf – National, daily
- De Volkskrant – National, daily
- Trouw – National, daily
- Het Parool – Amsterdam, daily
- Het Financieele Dagblad – National, daily
- Vrij Nederland – National, weekly
English Language papers
In Central Station and much of the surrounding area you can easily find a wide variety of English (and other languages) newspapers. Though papers from the UK are the easiest to find, a handful of American and Irish dailies are available. The American Book Centre at Spui 12 stocks a number of English language papers, as does Boekhandel De Waag at Zeedijk 126. Away from the centre it is still possible to find:
- The Guardian – Daily
- International Herald and Tribune – Daily
- The Economist – Weekly
- Newsweek – Weekly
Web News
A good way of keeping up on local news, before you get to grips with Dutch, is via the web.
- http://www.dutchnews.nl offers a good, up to date service.
- http://www.expatica.nl is a good source for local events and news round up.
