School year calendar guide for expats
While school calendars are set for public schools, private and international schools can vary widely in the dates they keep. The French International School, for example, follows the French calendar, with a school year starting in September and ending in June. Luckily, most private and international schools have their calendars on their websites.
The proposed calendars for public schools in the Western Cape from 2010 through 2012 run as follows, with public and most private schools being closed on public holidays:
2010
- Term 1: 13 January – 26 March (11 weeks)
- Term 2: 12 April – 9 June (9 weeks)
- Term 3: 13 July – 23 September (11 weeks)
- Term 4: 04 October – 11 December (10 weeks)
2011
- Term 1: 17/19 January – 01 April (11 weeks)
- Term 2: 11 April – 24 June (11 weeks)
- Term 3: 18 July – 30 September (11 weeks)
- Term 4: 10 October – 09 December (9 weeks)
2012
- Term 1: 16/18 January – 30 March (11 weeks)
- Term 2: 10 April – 22 June (11 weeks)
- Term 3: 16 July – 28 September (11 weeks)
- Term 4: 08 October – 07 December (9 weeks)
