Bringing Your Pet Guide
Most pets, except birds and the following breeds of dog, are allowed into the U.A.E.
Banned dogs: American bull dog, American pit bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Argentinean mastiff, bull terrier, canary dog fila brasilerio/ Brazilian mastiff, doberman, husky, miniature bull terrier, neapolitan, old English bull dog, perro de presa mallorquin/bull dog, rottweiler, shar pei, Staffordshire bull terrier, tosa.If you decide to bring your pet with you to Dubai, then you should start planning for this well in advance as it can be quite a complex and time-consuming process. The following process should be followed:
Microchip
All pets must be microchipped with a ten or fifteen digit ISO compatible microchip. The microchip number must be included on all your pet’s documentation.
Import Permit
Before you bring your pet to the UAE, you must obtain an import permit from the Ministry of Environment and Water. The permit will be valid for 60 days. One of these kennels will be able to help you obtain this. It will cost AED 220 plus the processing fees charged by the kennel.

Vaccination Certificate
To obtain the import permit, the kennel will need a copy of your pet’s vaccination record. You should get this to them approximately 3 weeks before your pet is due to travel. The certificate must include the date of birth, color, breed and microchip number of your pet. It should also contain the dates of all the vaccinations your pet has had and must be signed and stamped by your pet’s veterinarian.
To obtain the import permit, a valid rabies vaccination is the only requirement. This means an approved inactivated rabies vaccine which was administered no less than one month and not more than one year before your pet is due to travel to Dubai.
If you are coming from a Group 2 country, the vaccination certificate is the only documentation you need.
Group 2 countries are: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United States, the United Kingdom and the Vatican City.If you are bringing a pet from a country which has been rabies-free for three years but which has not yet been included in the list of Group 2 countries, you may need to provide an official statement to that effect from a government authority in that country.
If you are coming from a Group 1 country, a Rabies Serum Neutralization test certificate must be obtained from an accredited laboratory. The Serum Antibody level must be at least 0.5 IU.
Group 1 countries are: all countries in Africa, all countries in South America, Afghanistan, Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bhutan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brunei Darussalam, Bulgaria, Cambodia, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Latvia, Lebanon, Lithuania, Mexico, Malaysia, Maldives, Malta, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Myanmar (Burma), Nepal, Oman, Pakistan, Philippines, Poland, Qatar, Republic of Macedonia, Romania, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sri Lanka, Syrian Arab Republic, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Yemen.Good Health Certificate
Not more than ten days before your pet is due to travel, it must be examined by a veterinarian to check that it is free from infectious and contagious diseases and that it has no external parasites. The veterinarian should issue a “Good Health Certificate” to your pet which must then be endorsed by the veterinarian of the government of the country where your pet is living. This certificate must accompany your pet on its journey to Dubai.
Transporting your pet to Dubai
Pets must be shipped to Dubai as cargo. You may arrange for this to be done through an airline or through a specialized pet shipper. You can obtain a list of companies that specialize in shipping pets from the website of the Independent Pet and Animal Transportation Association International, Inc, at http://www.ipata.com. The airline or shipping company may require additional vaccinations and/or documentation.
Collecting Your Pet from the Airport
There is no quarantine in the UAE. When your pet arrives in Dubai, it must be collected from the airport. To do this, you need to have the original import permit, the vaccination certificate and a photocopy of your passport. You will also need the good health certificate that accompanied your pet on its journey. A payment of AED 200 must be paid to the veterinary department at the airport.
