Other transport services in Barcelona
Trams
As well as the Metro, bus and train network, Barcelona is serviced by trams.
The tram network is included on the Metro network map (see our Metro section for more details) and does not need a special ticket as all parts of the Barcelona public transport system are serviced by the same ticketing system.
Trams are a great way to see Barcelona for the first time and tend to be extremely clean and comfortable after the extensive modernisation program.
Bicycles
If you are looking for a slightly more interesting way to get around the city, get yourself a Bicing card.
This rent-a-bike scheme was put in place two years ago by the Barcelona City Council and now has more than 180,000 users. There are racks of bikes all over the city and to take advantage of the system, simply swipe your card, take a bike, use it for as long as you like and return it to any other Bicing rack anywhere in Barcelona.
You pay a yearly or monthly fee that covers bike insurance, theft and emergency medical cover for you.
To get a card, you will need to have an NIE or DNI (the identity numbers in Spain). To get yours, see our section ´NIE and Residency.´
Tourist Bus
Finally, if you feel like playing tourist for a day, or entertaining visitors from out of town, try and utilize the Turistic bus; it’s the easiest and cheapest way to cover all the major city sights and attractions. You can change lines, jump on and off as you please and if you are on the upper deck on a gorgeous day, you have some of the best views of the city!
