Fitness Centers
Fitness centers are everywhere in Chicago. Therefore only the main chains are quoted here. Once you settle in, check which one is the closest to your home or find a local fitness center. Do not hesitate to request a complete tour of the facility and a try-out before registering. Among the interesting services, some of them offer is the “Kid Club” where you can train while designated staff cares for your children.

Bally Fitness Center is one of the main leaders of the fitness industry within the US and is the leader on the Chicago market. This company has 22 clubs in the Chicagoland area. Half of them are located inside the city of Chicago.

It is more than a simple fitness club.

Chicago Park District is the organization that manages more than 7600 acres of parkland in the city of Chicago – parks, playgrounds, baseball fields, softball fields, golf courses, just to name a few. Chicago Park District also runs programs of all kinds (indoor and outdoor) using the parks and facilities the organization is in charge of. Through the CPD programs, you can learn how to skate, how to play basketball or baseball, and how to play golf for instance. The activities available go beyond your imagination and they target all groups of ages. This is a wonderful resource for children’s activities. One of the benefits is that the prices are very low. The CPD provides health and fitness program such as aerobics, aquatics, dance, boxing, fitness, self-defense and yoga.

Tennis

Established in 1969, Midtown Tennis Club is the world’s largest indoor tennis facility. It provides the best tennis instruction and world-class amenities.

CPD runs tennis programs indoor and outdoor for teenagers, adults and seniors. The indoor and outdoor facilities are good and usually located in California Park. The prices are very low.
Swimming Pools
Some of the fitness centers listed previously have their own private pool for members. When choosing your fitness center, the fact that they have a pool or not can become the criteria for becoming a member. For example, The YMCA Lakeview has a pool and runs swimming programs for toddlers, children, teens and adults. But the water of their pool is reputed to be the coldest in Chicago. Indeed, they do not warm it as some other clubs might, which can be an issue for young children.

The Chicago Park District has 26 indoor pools and 51 outdoor pools. Additionally, CPD manages the staff and runs programming at 36 Chicago Public School pools in partnership with After School Matters, 18 of which offer community programming.
Yoga
All the fitness centers listed previously (and others) supply Yoga and Pilates lessons. The Chicago Park District (http://www.chicagoparkdistrict.com) also runs Yoga lessons at inexpensive rates (fees starting from $15 twice a week for three months!!!).
Bikram Yoga Chicago is the best studio for Bikram Yoga (http://www.105f.com). They have three locations in Chicago: Wicker Park Studio, Lincoln Park Studio, South Loop Studio.
