Language in Chicago
The main spoken language in Chicago is obviously English. But the second language that is very useful to speak is Spanish. Indeed, there is a very large community of Spanish-speakers in the city. If you speak English and Spanish both fluently before your arrival it is a huge advantage for you or your spouse, especially if s/he would like to work in Chicago. Indeed, very often speaking Spanish is a plus or even required.
