Internet Service in Hanoi

The internet is efficient and stable in Vietnam, and speeds have improved to well over 100 kb/s, though there can be fluctuations in service speed. Also, certain connection protocols are banned, so streaming video is sometimes problematic even with high download speeds.

Most expat houses or apartments will come internet-ready. If not, your landlord should take care of it for you.

If you prefer to do it yourself, you can get your internet up and running in a day or two–just take your passport to one of the offices below, choose the best plan for your needs, and they’ll send a technician to your address to set up your connection. Both of these providers have improved their in-store English language service and websites recently, and telephone support in English is available and proficient. Fees run from VND 300,000 to 1,000,000 per month, depending on the package you sign up for. The major providers in Hanoi are:

Internet Cafes

Internet cafes abound in Hanoi, especially in the Old Quarter, where many tourist cafes are equipped with computers. Internet cafes charge $2-3/hour for internet use.

Nearly every neighborhood has at least one computer gaming center where local kids play on-line games and where you can access the internet, but you might find the noise of battles and guns a bit distracting!

Wifi

Wifi is available at most every coffee shop in Hanoi, and there are coffee shops on most every street. If you are equipped with laptop or smart phone, you should have no trouble at all finding a place to connect
