There is no set school calendar which all schools in Mumbai follow, due to the many kinds of schools and many types of religious holidays. International schools, by far the most popular kind of schools for expat children, tend to take breaks and holidays in conjunction with the countries they represent. The American School of Bombay, for example, takes a day off in November for Thanksgiving and goes on a long break in December for Christmas and New Year’s Day.
Most Indian public schools begin in June or July and end in April or May, while international schools usually run from August or September until May or June.
All schools honor Indian public holidays: Ghandi’s Birthday on October 2nd, Republic Day on January 26th, and Holi (date for Holi changes year to year).
