Pets in Brussels
Pets are common in Brussels and are very popular. The city is pet-friendly; you can take your pets with you in most public transport and parks, subject to certain rules. Many locals do have pets, though it is usually people who have the space that have bigger and more active pets. There are food stores, pet groomers and vets around the city, as well as pet stores where you can buy pets. Pets are quite expensive and you can expect to pay around 500€ for thoroughbred dogs. Public Transport Guideline for Pets
Train
- Guide dogs/working dogs travel free of charge.
- Small dogs in a cage/box/basket may travel free of charge if the measurements are no more than 55cm long, 30cm high and 30cm wide.
- Dogs can travel on a lead but must pay 50% ticket price as long as that does not exceed 2€.
- Pets may not use passenger seats on the train.
- Potential harmful dogs must be muzzled and if they are seen to pose a threat you may be asked to exit the train at the next stop.
Bus/Tram
- Small pets on a leash travel free of charge.
- Larger pets are subject to a fare and must be muzzled if potentially harmful to other passengers.
