Angelinos love their pets so much that owners can barely separate from their dogs. Outdoor coffee shops and cafes are filled with owners and their furry friends. Conversations between owners and dog lovers will take up the sidewalk while owners show off their companions to any interested passer-by. Pets are as adored as children and even the term “pet” has been outlawed, instead “companion” is the preferred term of the day.
LA law states that pets must be sterilized, common sense when you consider that shelters in the US take in approximately 5 million to 7 million companion animals every year. Back in the 80’s Ronald Reagan passed a law to destroy all unclaimed pets after two weeks. There are scores of under-funded cat and dog shelters, but Angelino’s have plenty of disposable income for dog walkers, pet sitters, vets, groomers, pet adoption agencies, pet stores, and pet psychologist to keep this love affair with animals going on into the next century.
Most owners clear up dog waste and most cats stay indoors, as it’s much safer than the heavily-trafficked roadways. Taking your pet to the vet for a check-up is a costly affair as annual shots are required. All pet fees are expensive and it is worth taking out pet insurance to ease the hefty bill if an emergency situation or grave illness arises. The chance of finding any financial support from pet shelters and animal care organizations is slim and many owners have to make a serious decision about emergency care.
