There is no shortage of clothing suppliers in Amsterdams. Between department stores, like the popular ones in the Netherlands, such as Hema and V&D listed in the previous section, and chains like H&M, as well as open-air markets such as the daily flea markets on the Waterlooplein and Alpert cuypstraat and the more specifically designer orientated market on the Westerstraat, open on Mondays, it is obvious that the city offers a wide range of styles in all prices. Moreover, on the more upscale shopping streets, like the P.C Hooftstraat, and the areas surrounding the Museumplein, you will find world renowned designer fashions, and all the latest brands and trends.

Markets
Waterlooplein
At this market, you will find all kinds of the latest, as well as vintage styles of fashion, both used and new. While prices vary considerably, this is not known as one of the least expensive outdoor markets in the city, but it does have a good collection of better quality clothes, compared to the markets that are popular for their bargain offerings. Moreover, there are some stores lining the streets surrounding the market that are worth checking out for their interesting fashion offerings, as well. This market is open daily (except Sunday) from 9-5. It is located in the Waterlooplein Square, right by the City Hall.
Westerstraat
The market spans the Westerstraat is one of Amsterdam’s most crowded flea markets, when it is open – from 9-13 on Mondays. While you will find the general overview of items offered is similar to that of other markets in Amsterdam, like fresh produce and baked goods, housing products and cosmetics, for example, at this market, the main focus is on textiles and clothing, and this is what draws the crowds. If you look, you will understand why, since much of the clothing is higher quality than you might expect, and you might even spy some high class designer labels for warehouse – or market – prices (if you care to know this art of moving fast and patiently, and then get “really lucky”).
Tailors
There are many laudromats (stomerij) in Amsterdam, where you can get clothing repairs and alterations done. These places offer minor adjustments for the most reasonable prices. There are also specialised tailors available, and these might be where you want to go for more detailed or demanding requests.
