As with anywhere else in the world, it’s not easy to find good workers. Thai electricians, plumbers and other handymen can be just as good, or bad, as you let them. The key is to make the terms clear from the beginning and get a quote before the work begins. Language difficulties can make this a problem, but do insist on getting a quote and keep your workers honest.
If you rent a house or condo, in most cases the landlord will be responsible for maintenance and repairs, so you will only have to contact him or her to get the job done, but if you have purchased property or want something done that is not covered in the contract, then it’s up to you to find qualified workers or do the job yourself.
If you live in a condo or Moo-Bahn with a head office, you’re likely to get recommendations from the administration. Most property companies have affiliations with handymen that either work directly for the company or on a contract basis. This is usually a guarantee for decent work and honest prices.
Otherwise your options may be limited to finding independent workers. Word of mouth recommendations is many times the best way to find workers. Ask your co-workers and friends if they know someone reliable. Workers that get their business from recommendations are also more likely to do their best to satisfy your requests as they thrive on.
