Where to live in Barcelona
Finding the right area in which to live is a highly individual decision. Practical factors like job location, schools and other amenities will always play the most important part, but on a more personal level the ´flavour´ of the area you live in will probably determine whether or not you are happy there.
Each district in Barcelona has its own characteristics and the neighbourhoods within them tend to as well: the stunning old-world feel of the Cuitat Vella (the Old City that houses the Gothic Quarter), the established and stately Zona Alta, the gorgeous buildings and terraces of Eixample, or the family-friendly suburb of San Cugat.
The good news is that even the traditionally high-crime areas like El Raval are evolving into safer, more creative and trendy areas to live in, so whatever your personal tastes, you are likely to land on your feet in any neighborhood you choose.
Of course, some areas offer more amenities than others, so in the following sections we have put together a description of each neighborhood or district as well as a useful ´quick glance´ table for you to be able to narrow down your options.
