Please see the “Types of Visas” section for requirements that apply to all visa applications, as well as a simple overview of the aspects of each specific visa.
To apply for the retirement visa (visa de jubilados), you need to observe the general visa rules (please refer to our Types of Visa section), and in addition you will need to provide the following documentation:
- An original certificate of a public or private institution certifying that you receive a pension, specifying its monthly amount.
- Original proof of ownership if you own any property in Spain.
- Proof of any other source of income and/or properties in Spain (The annual minimum is $10,000 increased by $1,700 for each dependent).
While most visa applications require proof of medical insurance, in this case it is especially important. You may also be asked to obtain additional medical insurance, so as not to be a burden to the free, public health care system. If you are unable to extend your existing insurance (from your country of origin), it would be wise to look into one the insurance options locally. (Please refer to our “Health Coverage” section under Medical Facilities/Health Insurance).
