Tipping in Brussels
Tipping is not always expected, but is always welcome in Brussels. In fact, the areas where tipping is more common are where expats gather as many expats are used to tipping. The wages of waiters, barmen, hairdressers and other service-oriented professions are subsidized by tips though there is no real expectancy of any percentage so to speak and should be done according to the service given rather than an obligation. A tip of 10% is a very good tip if given at all. Gratuities are not included in restaurant and bar bills. In taxis there is no expectation of a tip though it is always appreciated.
