Temporary Accommodation Guide – Cape Town
Serviced apartments in Cape Town are easy to find, and for what they are they’re better priced than hotels. Still, if you’re on a budget, be aware that there are guest houses in Cape Town that offer accommodation for one third the price (check out http://www.hotelclub.net/hotel.reservations/Cape_Town.htm). Self-catered apartments start in the 700 Rand-a-night range, and so are only for the relatively well-to-do.
The serviced apartments listed below are all upmarket establishments, as short term rental providers in this country tend to be – the business simply isn’t profitable any other way. To find more self-catering accommodation in the city, visit http://www.capestay.co.za/cape-town-self-catering.asp. The site filters allow you to view listings of serviced apartments arranged by area or price.
Flatrock Suites
Flatrock is a relatively expensive aparthotel, with units going from around R800 a night. These apartments sport chic decor, with full entertainment suites on a level with a four or five star hotel, and spectacular views of Table Mountain and the city from their spacious covered balconies. They have fully equipped kitchens, electronic safes, as well as washing machines and tumble driers. Flatrock is within ten minutes drive of the beaches of the Atlantic Seaboard, and within walking distance of all the best nightclubs and bars. Services are limited to turn downs and daily cleaning.
You’ll have a choice of two or three bedroom apartments, all of which have internet access by means of vouchers sold at a per-megabyte rate (R30 for 100MB, R50 for 166MB and so forth).

Leisure Bay
Leisure Bay’s self catering accommodation is well positioned about ten minutes out of the city centre on the West Coast. All of the apartments face onto the sea, across which you’ll see the view of Table Mountain so frequently pictured on Cape Town postcards. Within walking distance of Milnerton Golf Course, the apartments have direct beach access, come with secure parking bays, as well as the usual run of cleaning and kitchen facilities. Apartments come in one, two or three bedroom varietals (as many as six guests are allowed in one apartment), and have entertainment centers if you’d prefer to spend the evening at home. They start at around R995 in the low season, and lack internet access but there is an internet kiosk in the adjoining Relais hotel. Access to the hotel’s bar, restaurant, two swimming pools and coin-op laundromat is included.
