Manna Epicure – This bright, clean little establishment makes all its bread in a stone oven with flour imported from France. Also known for its fine dining and desserts.

The Real Cheese Company – Prominently located in Observatory’s Lower Main Road, this store has the most international range of cheese you’re likely to find in the city , from French and Italian to rare Chinese blends.

Mainland China – Probably the best Asian foods vendor in Cape Town, Mainland China stock all the sake, dried squid, dumplings, pork buns, prawn crackers and endomame you could hope to find. They also have a great sit-down restaurant with a take-out service – the black bean and chicken sauce is the in-house speciality.

Raith Gourmet – For the best cuts of cold meat in the land, visit this little deli located in Gardens Centre shopping mall. It’s become something of a hub for the local German community, who gather on weekends to enjoy its selection of Take-Away schnitzel and pastrami at surrounding tables.

Giovannis – This inspired deli stocks an excellent range of rare cold meats and cheeses, oils and pastas, along with the largest range of Italian truffles and Foie Gras products in the country. Its coffee is also beyond reproach.

Melissa’s – The only decent deli-chain around, Melissa’s sells a wide range of homemade preserves and ingredients, along with incredible nougats, crunchies and other snack-foods. Their flagship store is at 94 Kloof Street, Tamboerskloof, with six more in key spots around Cape Town.
