The quality of the doctors and hospitals are of a very high level. Indeed, some hospitals like Northwestern Hospital and The University of Chicago Medical Center, are linked to universities, Northwestern University and University of Chicago respectively, that are some of the best in the country and in the world.
Most of the time, doctors are affiliated to or have privileges in a hospital and can have their own practice. Practices can be hosted in a hospital but this not a general rule. Unfortunately, doctors do not do house-calls. Most of the practices have their own website, with business hours, forms for first visit as well as their check-in process. For children, pediatricians require a new patient visit to do a healthy child check before the children can be seen for sick visits. Therefore do not wait to have a sick child to look for a pediatrician otherwise you may have difficulty to get an appointment. Moreover be aware that for a new patient visit, some pediatrician practices have a three month delay.
