Where to Live in Dubai
Choosing a place to live in Dubai can be all about the location and the cost. The traffic in Dubai today means that many people choose where to live based on where they work and where their children will go to school. To avoid long commutes in bumper to bumper traffic, the majority of people choose to live within a short drive of their office. Schools are another consideration. Most of the international schools are located in Jumeirah or further south along Sheikh Zayed Road, although there are some which serve those families living in Festival City, Mirdif and the new developments on Emirates Road. Another important consideration is your housing budget as areas differ dramatically in price.
Your personal circumstances will dictate the size of property you need, and this will be considerably cheaper in some parts of town than in others. Another factor to consider is whether you want to rent or buy property. Currently, foreign expats can only buy freehold property in the new developments on the outskirts of the city. On top of all these points is the fact that each area has its own personality. You may want to live in the hustle and bustle of the streets in old Dubai or you may prefer the gated communities in the new developments. Alternatively, you may want to live high up in an ultra modern apartment building overlooking the Gulf. If it is possible, try to spend some time in the city before you make your decision. Your experience of life in Dubai will very much depend on where you choose to live.
