Bus Options in Dubai
Very few western expatriates use the buses in Dubai. Although they are very cheap (AED 1 – 4.50), convoluted routes mean that journeys can take a long time. Although there are bus schedules, timings are typically erratic. There are air-conditioned bus stops around the city and this makes the long waits more bearable. The buses run from 6 am to 11 pm.
Timetables, route maps and prices are available from the main bus stations in Deira or Bur Dubai, by visiting http://www.rta.ae, or by phoning a 24-hour information number 800 9090.
If you do decide to try the buses, it is important to know that:
- all bus stops are request stops
- eating, drinking, and smoking are not allowed
- the first three rows are reserved for women
- change is frequently not available, so you should make sure you have the exact fare
