Although there are stand alone pharmacies, many are conveniently located within supermarkets and drugstores like Walgreens. Hospitals and many clinics house their own pharmacies, as well.

Many medicines such as cold remedies, cough suppressant, and ointments can be purchased without prescription (They are called OTC – Over The Counter drugs). Pharmacists are specialists in their field and offer sound advice on minor ailments.

For prescription medicines, your doctor may or may not hand you a prescription directly. If your doctor did not hand it to you, the prescription will be called in to the pharmacy. Make sure you have with you the number of the pharmacy where you would like the prescription to be filled. Patients are telephoned once the prescription is ready to be picked up.

Foreign prescriptions will not be honored. You will first have to visit a doctor in the US and have a new prescription given.
