Parks and playgrounds may not be plentiful in Mumbai, but after-school classes and activities conducted in English are. You should have no trouble finding a suitable class or group for your child. Overall, prices are inexpensive when compared to western prices for lessons. Naturally, private sessions cost more than group classes.
International Schools
The international schools of Mumbai provide their students with many types of after-school activities from sports to chess to pottery. Most public schools, meanwhile, do not have the funding or support for extra curricular activities. In fact, one of the many benefits of attending international schools is the varied and constantly changing assortment of activities from which students can choose. Older kids especially will enjoy activities arranged through their school, since they’ll be in company of their schoolmates. You can view the American School of Bombay’s extracurriculars by clicking here.
Clubs
Country and sports clubs like Breach Candy Club and The Willingdon Club offer coaching in sports for members and their children. Possibilities include lessons in football, tennis, golf, cricket, and gymnastics. The choices vary depending on the club, but ask and you might even be able to arrange ballet or instrument classes. See our “Networking” section for contact details.
Parks
Jogger’s Park
Carter Road, Near the Otter’s Club, 400050 Bandra West
Jogger’s Park is one of the nicest green areas in Mumbai. It overlooks the sea and has a track for joggers and a separate track for walkers. There is a sandpit and small playground for kids to play in. It isn’t broad enough for a game of football, but you could toss a ball around. Younger kids will like the rather strange bird aviaries with parakeets and other exotic birds.
Patwardhan Udyan Park
Off Waterfield Road and Linking Road, 400050 Bandra West
This huge park is well-kept and clean. There are two jungle gyms and sand pits; a running track; a walking path; swings; and even a large, open patch of grass.
Bajaj Park
Union Park Road, Khar West
Clean, pretty, and quiet park with two jungle gyms, seats, sand pits, and toilet facilities.
