You will enjoy the delicious Indian breads and sweeter than sweet Indian desserts from Mumbai bakeries. But if you’re feeling homesick, you can take comfort in western breads, cakes, and muffins, and pastries.
Indians eat flat breads with many traditional dishes, using the bread to scoop up and eat vegetables and curries. Naan is a thick, leavened flatbread cooked in a clay oven called a tandoor. Rotis and chapatis are thinner, unleavened flatbreads which resemble tortillas.
Western-style bread doesn’t taste quite the same when it’s made in India. It’s usually dry and crumbly. There are some bakeries which make excellent western breads, though, or maybe you could try baking bread at home.
