Chor Bazaar is Mumbai’s big and unique flea market. The name translates into “thief’s market,” in keeping with the legend that Queen Elizabeth’s violin was once stolen and then discovered for sale at the bazaar.
Today, Chor Bazaar is a busy market on Mutton Street in South Mumbai full of second (and third, and fourth) hand items, some of which are labeled as antiques. Use a discerning eye and your best judgment to weed out the true antiques from the phonies. Chor Bazaar is open Saturday to Thursday from 11:00 am until 7:00 pm.
Crawford Market, near the Victoria Terminus in South Mumbai, is a huge market with everything you can imagine. Items are cheap and mostly new, though you might find some second-hand goods. The neighboring Zaveri Bazaar features new and old jewelery. Bargaining is the expected. Crawford Market is open daily from about 10:00 am until 10:00 pm.
For more second-hand items you can look in local newspapers under the “Misc for sale” section or visit the classifieds of http://www.sulekha.com/.
