The School Year Calendar for Independent schools in New York City is available at the individual websites of each school. Generally the school year calendar extends from September to June of the following year. Listed below is the school year calendar as determined by the New York City Department of Education which is largely followed by the public schools in New York City. More information about the school year calendar for pre-kindergarten students can be found on the website of the Departnent of Education in New York City at (http://schools.nyc.gov).

September 9th Wednesday School Session begins for all students-Early dismissal for non-District 75 Kindergarten students only
September 10th Thursday Early dismissal for non-District 75 Kindergarten students only
Septemer 28th Monday Yom Kippur Holiday
October 12th Monday Columbus Day
November 3rd Tuesday Election Day Chancellor’s conference day for staff development, students will not be in attendance
November 11th Wednesday Veteran’s Day
November 26th and November 27th Thursday and Friday Thanksgiving recess
December 24th to January 4th 2010 Winter Recess
January 18th Monday Martin Luther King Jr Day
February 1st Monday Fall term ends for High School students. No High school students will be in attendance but school continues for all other grades. Chancellor’s conference day for staff development in all high schools.
February 2nd Tuesday Spring Term begins for all High School Students
February 15th to Feburuary 19th Mid winter recess including Washington’s birthday
March 29th to April 6th Spring Recess which includes Good Friday, Easter and Passover Holiddays students return to school on April 7th, Wednesday.
May 31st Monday Memorial Day
June 10th Tuesday Chancellor’s conference day for staff development -no students will be in attendance , June 15th to June 23rd Regents Exams for High School Students in non-District 75 schools
June 24th Thursday Regents Rating Day, students will not be in attendance
June 28th Monday Last Day for all students
