While the Buddhist and Shinto faiths are the two major religions of Japan, a good percentage of the population are Christian. But despite access to a variety of religions, faith does not play an important role (at least not publicly) in the daily lives of the Japanese people. As such, religion is rarely talked about in any context (unless in relation to a wedding, funeral, or other major ceremony). Like in many aspects of their lives, the Japanese are very tolerant people and are not concerned with the religious beliefs of others.
