After-school Activities Guide
There are many activities in Vancouver for children to do after school and in their free time. Most schools offer plenty of extra-curricular activities, such as art, drama, yearbook, sports, band/orchestra, clubs, and much more. Vancouver also has community-based centers (not-for-profit organizations) called Neighborhood Houses which offer a wide variety of support, learning, and enrichment programs for all ages and for those from all socio-economic levels, but especially for children and youth. These programs are often free of charge, or offered at a small cost. Neighborhood Houses are partly funded by donations from the local community.
Each Vancouver neighborhood also has a community center, which provides all kinds of activities and lessons for children and youth, for a modest fee. Activities and lessons offered change by season, and year. Typical offerings include culinary arts classes, creative arts classes, drama, sports and sports lessons, swimming lessons, dance lessons, music lessons (instrument and voice), fitness, educational activities and tutoring, and activities for youth (nights out, dance, sports, volunteer opportunities). Programs and activities for children and youth are from ages 0-18. Contact the community center nearest you for the most current offerings (see below).
