Sport Events Guide Vancouver
Hockey is Canada’s most beloved national sport and pastime. One of Canada’s most significant NHL teams, the Vancouver Canucks, play at Rogers Arena, a large, domed sports arena situated at the edge of the downtown.
The BC Lions are Vancouver’s professional football team, and are part of the Canadian Football League. The Lions play 8 home games per season at BC Place, Canada’s first domed arena, located just across from GM Place.
The Vancouver Giants are Vancouver’s junior hockey team, part of the Western Hockey League. The Giants play at the Pacific Coliseum, an indoor sports arena located in Hastings Park, and players typically go on to play for the NHL.
Vancouver does not have a major league baseball team, but the Vancouver Canadians are its proud minor league team, part of the Northwest League of the Oakland Athletics. The Canadians play at the Nat Bailey Stadium, a 6500-seat stadium located in the Riley Park-Little Mountain neighborhood of East Vancouver.
Vancouver has been awarded the 17th Major League Soccer (MLS) team, and the Whitecaps officially began playing here just this year (2011).
