A government study was carried out in 2009 into the impact that value-added taxes would have on the Emirate. As a result of the study, the government decided against introducing this type of taxation.
Municipal taxes are included in the price of such items as cigarettes, alcohol, hotel stays, and fees at golf and private health clubs.
A municipality tax, which covers garbage collection, street lighting, etc. is also included in your monthly electricity and water bill and worked out at 5% of your rent.
