Newspapers and Media Guide Sydney
Sydney does not have many major newspapers. There are two broadsheets; The Sydney Morning Herald and The Australian, and one tabloid, The Daily Telegraph. There is also The Financial Review, which is a business newspaper.
The Sydney Morning Herald offers news and analysis with content aimed at an university-educated readership. The Australian is a national newspaper and although not as widely read as The Sydney Morning Herald, its readership is from the same demographic. The Daily Telegraph is a tabloid with more local news, sports and entertainment stories. It is an easier paper to read, missing the analysis and, some would argue, the credibility, that The Sydney Morning Herald and The Australian offer. The Financial Review covers news that is business-related which includes a comprehensive list of stocks and their trading prices.
Australia is a multicultural nation and there are over 100 Australian ethnic newspapers in over 40 languages, many in Sydney. These include Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese and Korean. They are available from news agencies.
