Choosing a School Guide
Generally all of the public schools are very good, however the Flemish schools offer the best well-rounded language education, devoting more hours to English and French than the others. Registration is open for kids a couple of months before the school year begins. Getting into the best schools can be difficult and there are parents who literally camp out at those highly-coveted schools to register beginning the night before registration.Generally the best way to find the best schools is through local networks at work or in your neighborhood as though the curricula may be very similar, teachers and facilities can make a big difference.
The private schools are different in that they may offer more international curricula such as British, American, International Baccalaureate and so on depending on the national affiliation of the school. The prices are generally quite high. Many of the children in these schools have parents who work for the many multi-national corporations based in and around Brussels and are subsidized to a large part by the parents´ employers.
The private schools are even more elite and offer more in the way of a well-rounded education (curriculum and sport) but are largely cost prohibitive.
