School Year Calendar Guide Buenos Aires
The school year in Argentina runs from March through December, with some minor variations depending on which scho ol your child attends and what type of program they are enrolled in. Children typically have a two-week break in July. Most private schools run on the same schedule. Exceptions are Lincoln and the Buenos Aires International Christian Academy, which follow the American school calendar, beginning classes in August or September and ending in June.
All public schools will give students off for national holidays (see section marked “Public Holidays” for a comprehensive list of dates). Primary school students also have off for Teachers’ Day (September 11), which commemorates the death of President Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, the father of the modern education system. Secondary students observe Students’ Day (September 21), which coincides with the first day of Spring in the Southern Hemisphere. In lieu of these holidays, many international schools observe a week-long Spring Break at the end of September.
For exact start and end dates, you will have to contact the specific school in which you wish to enroll your child. An example of a typical school year is below, but be sure to check with your specific school about start dates, holidays, and breaks, as there is no set calendar for all schools.
