Pharmacies in Chicago
Walgreens and CVS are the two main chains of pharmacy in the US and you can find them very easily all around the city of Chicago. They look like small supermarkets or drugstores as they sell much more than just drugs. These pharmacies carry stationary, beauty products, snacks, toys, and more. Most of them are open 24 hours, 7 days a week.
For medication, there are two types of departments within these pharmacies. One section is for drugs that do not need a prescription: you can help yourself and there is a large variety of products for children and adults. If you need advice, you can ask a pharmacist to help you to find out if a drug is appropriate in your case. In the other section, you can buy drugs only with the prescription from your doctor. Have your insurance card with you, it will be requested for the payment. In case of emergency, some doctors can call your closest pharmacy and make a prescription over the phone. You will just have to pick it up.
Pharmacies do not accept foreign prescriptions. Be aware that prescriptions, actual paper that the prescription is written upon, become the property of the pharmacy once you have purchased your drugs. You will not have your prescription back. All the details about the treatment will be written on stickers on your drugs’ boxes.
