Education Guide
Expatriate children are not allowed to go to public schools. However, it is compulsory for children aged five and above to regularly attend school. There are many international schools available in Dubai which provide high standards of education.
Places are limited, especially at secondary schools, so it is important to put your child’s name down for a place as soon as possible. Schooling tends to be expensive, although there is quite a lot of variation between the different schools.
All private and public schools in Dubai have yearly inspections by representatives from the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA). The inspection reports, which are released every May, classify Dubai schools into four categories: outstanding, good, acceptable, unsatisfactory. All schools have been given recommendations for improvements and are expected to develop action plans to make improvements. These reports can be accessed from the KHDA website at http://www.khda.gov.ae/. In addition to the local inspections, many schools are also evaluated by international inspectors.
