Private Transport Options in Dubai
Your own car will give you the freedom to explore Dubai on your own terms. With inexpensive car prices and relatively cheap gas prices, typically AED 80 to fill the tank on a medium-sized family car and AED 110 to fill the tank of a large SUV, most expats choose to drive.
Although expats may complain about traffic congestion and dangerous driving, very few can imagine life in Dubai without a car. Most families have at least two cars, even if one spouse is not working. The daily school-run, shopping trips, and ferrying children to different activities would be very difficult, time-consuming and expensive if you were to rely on taxis and practically impossible if trying to use the bus. Some families and individuals choose to sponsor live-in drivers or maids who can also drive. This is less popular with Western expats than with other nationalities (see the section on hiring domestic help).
