Public Transport Guide Dubai
Public transport in Dubai is not at all popular with either local Emiratis or with professional expats, the vast majority of whom have never been on a public bus or the new metro system. Public transport is safe, clean and very cheap. However, very few people who can afford to have a car would think about using any form of public transport. Part of the reason for this is the relatively low costs of cars and petrol. Others prefer not to use public buses because the circuitous routes mean that journey times are often longer than they would be by private car or taxi. Another reason is the climate. During the summer months, high temperatures mean that people prefer to drive rather than have to face the heat as they travel to a bus stop or metro station. Even though all bus stops are air conditioned, and in winter months, the temperatures in Dubai are very pleasant, people still choose not to use public transport.
It is hoped that this situation will begin to change now that the Dubai metro has opened. VIP carriages and women and children only carriages are available in all metro trains for those who would usually be reluctant to use public transport.
