A number of different visas are available from Hong Kong immigration for various purposes. These include Transit/Visit, Employment, Capital Investment, and Study. You can read more about each of these visas in the individual sections that follow.
If you wish to enter the country as a dependent of a visa holder, you can find relevant information in the section pertaining to the visa of the individual who will act as your sponsor; for example, if you will be the dependent of an individual with an employment visa you can learn more about this in the “you have a job and need to relocate” section.
All visas, with the exception of visas on arrival for eligible visitors, must be secured in advance and the visa sticker placed into the holder’s passport before arrival in Hong Kong. In the majority of cases, the sponsoring party will be responsible for the admission of paperwork to the Hong Kong Immigration Department and should liaise with the applicant to fulfill all documentation requirements. Individuals filing their own paperwork can do so at the Chinese embassy in their home country. Addresses and contact details can be found in the “Consulates Abroad” section.
