You are Going for an Internship
Although there is no specific visa available for those looking to complete an internship in Australia*, the Australian government provides a ‘Professional Year’ course that includes an internship with an Australian business or organisation that may suit some individuals with specific skills.
The Professional Year program is designed to provide those looking to eventually migrate to Australia with an introduction to the norms and values of Australian workplace culture. Completing a course can be beneficial to applicants who will be assessed under the Skilled Migration points test as it provides them with bonus points.
If you are interested in participating in the Professional Year program it is recommended you check for the most current available courses as the skills considered to be in demand by the government change frequently.
For the most current information on the Professional Year program see http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/professional-year.htm
*If you have been offered an internship in Australia, it is recommended you apply for the Temporary Business Long Stay Visa – Standard Business Sponsorship (subclass 457) discussed in the ‘you have a job and need to relocate’ section.
