Bakery Options in Sydney
You can find a wide variety of breads available in Sydney. This is a reflection of the many cultures that live here. All bakeries sell fresh bread and stock white, wholemeal, rye, sourdough, Italian, and multi-grain breads and an assortment of other breads, depending on the store and its location. Supermarkets also stock a wide selection, including gluten free, Lebanese, Mexican and Indian breads, although their breads may not have been baked that day. Other ethnic breads can be found at specific delicatessens and some bakeries. Most bakeries are open very early and close around 6pm or later.
The two main chain bakeries are Brumby’s and Baker’s Delight. Their breads and prices are similar to each other, however, Brumby’s breads are preservative free and their plastic bags are recyclable.
There are many independent Vietnamese bakeries in Sydney. This is due to the large Vietnamese population in Sydney and France’s culinary influence in Vietnam during its occupation. Their prices are normally very inexpensive. They also sell pork and salad rolls which are garnished with fresh coriander and chili, and a type of soy sauce. Yummy, cheap and quick.
