Parents’ Participation in Vancouver
In public schools, particularly in elementary schools, parents are encouraged to get involved and to help out, especially with special activities such as field trips. In private schools, parental involvement may be mandatory, depending on the particular school. Each school in BC typically has a Parental Advisory Council (PAC), in which parents may become active and attend monthly meetings if they wish. PAC is the official voice of parents, and provides an opportunity for parents to have a say in policies, programs, procedures, etc.
Volunteering is a great way to get to know your child’s teacher, and to gain a better understanding of what goes on in your child’s classroom. Teachers generally welcome parental help and involvement.
