While New Zealand prides itself on being the “DIY” capital of the world, many expats (and some Kiwis!) aren’t quite as handy around the house. Luckily, there are scores of talented tradespeople to choose from to help with any project you might have.
The easiest way is to look for the service you need in the Auckland Yellow Pages at http://www.yellow.co.nz, or by simply Googling “Auckland” plus the service you are looking for – painters, plumbers, gardeners, etc. Either will bring up a wide range of listings from which to choose.
If you want a more specific, group of pre-screened choices, there are several websites that can help you, including:
Builderscrack — Post a job and contractors bid on the job. You can read reviews from previous customers and make an informed decision on who to use. Any type of work including but not limited to: building, gardening, electrical, carpentry, paving. If you’d rather not use the internet to find help, many tradespeople also advertize in the back pages of your region’s free, local newspaper. Message boards at supermarkets also feature ads from local tradesmen looking for work.
